WI vs SL 1st Test Day-2: Cornwall, Joshua gives West Indies 99 runs lead after Lakmal’s fifer

WI vs SL 1st Test Stumps Day 2 – West Indies 268/8, leads by 99 runs after super-show by Rahkeem Cornwall and Joshua Da Silva: Chasing Sri Lanka’s 1st innings total of 169, West Indies were tottering at 171/7 with Suranga Lakmal taking 5 of those wickets. It seemed West Indies first innings lead will be limited and Sri Lanka is back in the match. But 8th wicket partnership with Cornwall & Joshua changed it all.

Both added 90 runs for the 8th wickets to put West Indies firmly in front with 99 runs lead. By day’s end, Cornwall was not out on 60 off 79 balls – 48 of those runs having come from boundaries (nine fours, two sixes).

His 90-run eighth-wicket stand with Da Silva, who contributed only 29 to the partnership, broke the match open for the West Indies.

‘I have some batting skills, tried to bat along Joshua and build a partnership. It’s all about confidence, I tell my coach that I’m capable of making big scores. I just wanted to support Joshua and take the score forward. Think we’re in a good position, it’s important to bat well in the first hour tomorrow and then take the game forward’ said Cornwall.
