Covid-19: BMC to watch out for December surge as more international tourists expected in Mumbai | Mumbai News

Health workers conduct swab tests of arriving passengers at Dadar station

MUMBAI: The BMC on Monday said it will watch out for any rise in Covid-19 cases and any possibility of a new variant next month following the expected increase in travellers from abroad for Christmas and year-end festivities.
The BMC said there has been no visible rise in cases after Diwali so far. However, the civic body said the 14-day Covid cycle ends around November 20 and it would continue testing aggressively to monitor the situation.
Civic officials said they will be as vigilant in December as they expect an increase in overseas travellers.
Recently, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) said with the ministry of aviation allowing airlines to operate at 100% of their scheduled capacity and the Christmas season lined up, passenger traffic is inching towards pre-Covid levels. It is a known fact that due to Covid restrictions, several overseas travellers had been unable to visit Mumbai last year.
Suresh Kakani, additional municipal commissioner in charge of the health department, pointed to news reports that Mumbai airport has been witnessing a record number of passengers. “In December we expect an increase in international travellers landing in the city either to meet families or as tourists, considering that travel restrictions have eased and also a large number have been vaccinated. Besides, socialisation may also be at its peak. Any new variant may be enough to rock the boat and therefore we will be monitoring it very closely. We would be requesting testing of travellers and also appeal to those with even the slightest symptoms to get tested,” said Kakani, adding this is one of the reasons why they have been conducting cyclic genome sequencing, which is a study of changes in the structure of the virus over time at regular intervals.
Officials said increasing vaccine coverage of the city’s population is encouraging. The BMC is taking various steps to increase vaccination, including calling citizens who may have missed their second dose, holding vaccine-on-wheel camps around high footfall areas and encouraging housing societies to inform them in case anyone has missed their dose.

Covid-19 fallout: Flight to New York remains a dream

Published

on

Propelled by a hedonistic whim, I fancied a celebratory sojourn in New York soon after retirement, which was due on September 30, 2019. Undeterred by hearsay that getting a US visa was an uphill task, I downloaded the DS-160 webpage to apply for a visitor visa on the verge of retirement. Interviews for the US visa are held at their embassy in New Delhi and consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. As I hailed from Chandigarh, I chose the US Embassy in New Delhi, as also the first available date for the interview.

The long queue at the gate of the US embassy signalled tough competition. Absorbed in observing the body language of fellow aspirants in the queue, I inched forward for security check. After the rigorous frisking, I was ushered into the interview hall to wait for my name to be called. There were many interview counters on one side of the hall. One applicant was called at a time at each of the counters. The expression of dejection or rejoice on the candidates’ face at the end of their interview indicated rejection or approval of their application. The withholding of passport by the embassy symbolised approval.

Eventually, my turn came. I responded confidently to the lucid queries, asked gently, about my job, the reasons for a US visit, my stay arrangements in the US, etc. The consular officer, an affable lady, concluded with a smile, “OK, Mr Gupta, you will receive your passport after a couple of days”. I thanked her courteously, beaming. The due diligence in filling in the D-160 electronic application had paid the dividends, I surmised. A few days after the interview and before my retirement, I was overwhelmed with exhilaration upon receiving my passport with the US visa affixed therein.

Initially, I intended to go to the US in October 2019 itself. But an NRI friend convinced me that the best season to travel to New York would be the spring season, which is the April-June quarter. So, the next year in February, I booked the flight to New York for the end of April 2020. Feeling upbeat, I started browsing the internet for a suitable hotel in Manhattan. Though the initial news about Covid-19 had started trickling, I never imagined it would jeopardise my trip. By each passing day, the threat of the pandemic started looming larger. Before the end of March 2020, all scheduled international flights out of India had been suspended. India was placed under prolonged lockdown. My air ticket was left in abeyance.

When Covid appeared to be abating by February 2021, I rescheduled my trip for NYC for the first half of May 2021. As if my trip was jinxed, the second wave of Covid, more lethal than before, struck our country at that very juncture. Scheduled international flights continued to be in suspension month after month. Broken-hearted, I finally requested the airline to cancel my ticket and refund the amount, which they graciously did. Covid-19 sure did shatter my post-retirement foreign dream as it would have done in the case of million others. [email protected]

Introduction

The final arc of Fire Force is here now. The overall series is kinda overkill but that doesn’t imply that the creator Atsushi Okubo is gonna do it in an easy way now. After the brain-shaking ending of the last chapter, the fans are having some hope now as one of their favorite guys is back now. But we’re not sure that if that character is actually breathing or he’s in any other form. Here is everything to know about Fire Force Chapter 293.

Recap of Previous Chapter

Before we start talking about the upcoming Fire Force Chapter 293, let’s have a quick peek into the previous chapter. As we have witnessed in the previous chapter, Shinra gets engulfed in his anger and rushes towards Haumea despite the fact that he can’t even touch her. Shinra tries to attack her more and more he fails when he already knows that his attacks won’t hit her. His angry attacks are only making things worst that he doesn’t know yet.

Here on the Earth, the show presents that despair begins to succumb the whole planet, and the last light of hope Captain Obi is now dead. As a result, Shinra goes berserk (devil mode) but people of earth got nothing left other than despair, and thanks to that the catalyst starts working and our favorite characters turn into ashes in the flame of catalyst.

After that Shinra pauses his attack for a moment and looks at the earth. There he sees his companions are dying and as a result, he also loses all of his hopes and surrenders to despair. That fuels the catalyst to the extent that it now covers the whole planet. Earth is now nothing but a black flame ball.

As Chapter 292 has already been out a few days back, here’s what we know about Fire Force Chapter 293 and what you should know about it.

Spoilers for Chapter 293

Since the fight started between Shinra and Haumea, after a while we can witness Arthur is conversing with his sword Excalibur. Well… the sword can speak. Because of this, it is currently unclear whether Arthur is breathing or not. Although some say Arthur’s soul now lives in Excalibur, his sword. What looks like Arthur in the next chapter, although his mortal body is destroyed Arthur’s soul keeps fighting. Please do remember that this is not public and not guaranteed, but rather what we are considering based on the threads we have seen so far and the few fan versions currently available.
