European Union to propose a 9-month validity on COVID vaccines for travel

In a recent travel development, the European Union (EU) will propose a nine-month validity or time limit on Coronavirus vaccines for travel. The EU will also recommend prioritising vaccinated travellers. According to an official report, the European Commission will recommend its members to continue welcoming vaccinated travellers with shots approved by the bloc.

The announcement comes after the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) suggested that vaccine boosters should be considered for all adults for travel.

On Thursday, EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders said that a new internal EU travel framework will be prepared that will focus on individuals’ vaccination or recovery status than on caseloads in the countries they are travelling from.

The proposed updates will set a new time limit for the validity of vaccines and make booster shots an important thing for travelling to Europe. However, the EU is still not ready to propose a time limit for booster shot certificates. The commission also wants to extend its rules on the EU digital certificate beyond next summer.

The new revised rules will allow kids between 6 and 17 years with a negative PCR test travel to the EU nations even if they’re unvaccinated. However, the EU nations could ask for additional testing, quarantine or self-isolation after arriving in the country.

Following up on the regular briefings he had on COVID while traveling, the President met in person today with his Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members of his White House COVID Response Team. Dr. Fauci and members of the COVID Response Team updated the President on the latest developments related to the Omicron variant. Dr. Fauci informed the President that while it will take approximately two more weeks to have more definitive information on the transmissibility, severity, and other characteristics of the variant, he continues to believe that existing vaccines are likely to provide a degree of protection against severe cases of COVID. Dr. Fauci also reiterated that boosters for fully vaccinated individuals provide the strongest available protection from COVID. The COVID Response Team’s immediate recommendation to all vaccinated adults is to get a booster shot as soon as possible; all adults are eligible for a booster if they were vaccinated six months ago or more with Pfizer or Moderna, or two months ago or more with Johnson & Johnson. Importantly, those adults and children who are not yet fully vaccinated should get vaccinated immediately. The President will provide an update about the new variant and the U.S. response on Monday.

The seven children from the ‘Apna Ghar’ juvenile detention centre tested positive for the coronavirus infection over the weekend, he said. The area has not been declared as a micro-containment zone as the “infection spread is within one house”, the official said.

According to sources, a child, who was to be taken to Madhya Pradesh following release from the facility, initially tested positive for the viral infection. “Later, all other children at the facility were tested and reports of six of them also came out positive,” a source said.
