Armidale Regional Council is hosting free live music events in Armidale and Guyra to celebrate Youth Week, an annual celebration of young people throughout Australia.

Local artists Charlie Fittler and Mad Proppa Deadly DJ are amongst the line-up featuring at each event.

The live music celebrations will take place from 5pm to 8pm at Armidale Town Hall on Saturday 17 April and Guyra Community Hall on Friday 23 April, and local youth aged 12 to 24 are invited to attend.

Armidale Regional Council Mayor Ian Tiley said Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to get together and share ideas and views about issues that affect their lives.

“This year’s theme for Youth Week is ‘Together more than ever,’ and offering free entertainment encourages people to come together in a safe space to enjoy and listen to the talents of local artists,” said Mayor Tiley.

Attendees will receive vouchers for a sausage sizzle dinner and dessert bar.

Other local artists performing over the two events include Pulse, YK Poet, MG Mission Gangsta and DC. These local songwriters are growing their art through Mad Proppa Deadly’s mentoring program for young regional Koori artists.

“Youth in the Armidale region will also have access to local service providers and an opportunity to share their views with Council,” said Mayor Tiley.

“Armidale and Guyra Libraries will host local service providers throughout Youth Week, 16 to 24 April, for people to explore the services available to them.”

“Council is seeking feedback from community members aged between 12 and 25 via an online survey available at the libraries and Your Say Armidale, to hear the views on local issues, areas of concerns and increase community awareness of young people and what’s important to them,” said Mayor Tiley.

The survey takes no longer than 10 minutes to complete and participants will receive a free movie ticket.

To adhere to COVIDSafe restrictions, participants wanting to attend the free music events are required to register online via Eventbrite.
