Houston home inspired by Darth Vader’s head now up for sale

Many have tried to get inside Darth Vader’s head, including, most notably, his creator, George Lucas, who made three prequel movies showing the once-imposing Star Wars villain as a pod-racing, baby-murdering, sand-hating youth. Now, enterprising fans with a desire to more literally live within the dark lord’s noggin and who have a spare $4.3 million kicking around can buy a house designed to kind of look like his creepy space helmet.

“The Darth Vader House,” according to its listing on Sotheby’s real estate website and a post on Boing Boing, was built in 1992 by Dr. Jean Cukier, a presumably wealthy man whose riches allowed him to build a home modeled after one of pop culture’s most recognizable symbols of cartoonish evil.

Located in Houston, Texas, Dr. Cukier’s mad experiment resulted in a 7,040-square foot house that’s meant to resemble Darth Vader’s helmet and basically just looks like a weird postwar museum building that got dropped in a suburb. It comes with four bedrooms, five bathrooms, central air, and a four-car garage. It’s also located in the Houston Independent school district, in case that’s of concern to any evil Sith buyers who want to ensure that their nefarious younglings are well-educated.

The listing leans into its reputation, stating that the home is “known to many as ‘The Darth Vader House’” and calling it a “contemporary masterpiece [that] is one not to miss.” It pretty needlessly adds that there’s “nothing else like it in the area.” As for the price: $4.3 million may be a lot of money, but it’s a drop in the bucket for the incredible sums that wealth-hoarding Star Wars fans will have to spend if they’d like to go the entire way and really, fully embody their evil hero.

Pimpri-Chinchwad industries want doorstep Covid-19 vaccination for factory workers

Published

on

Small and medium scale industries in Pimpri-Chinchwad have demanded Covid-19 vaccination drives within their premises to ensure all of their workers are fully vaccinated. Abhay Bhor, president of the Forum of Small Scale Industries, said around 50 per cent of the employees are yet to get their second dose.

The emergence of the Omicron variant of coronavirus has brought the focus back on vaccination. Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have seen good vaccination coverage but the percentage of people who are fully vaccinated is not that high. Bhor said most industrial workers are in the age group of 18-45 years and had got their first dose late. “Most of the 12-14 lakh workers in the various small and medium scale industries have got their first dose and around 50 per cent of them are yet to get their second dose,” he said.

Over the last week, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has started a special door-to-door vaccination drive. “Our Forum wants such a drive to be done at the industrial area. We have been asking for a special vaccination centre only for the industrial workers since the start of the drive but that did not happen,” he said.

Bhor pointed out the advantage of an exclusive drive for the industrial worker would vaccinate the most mobile population of the area. Given the slack in infection rates and easy availability of vaccines, the centres have not seen much of a rush. But the vaccination slots are available only during the working hours of the industrial units. “Instead, if the vaccination comes near to them it would be of immense help to the workers,” he said.

iPhone SE 3 release date, specs and price — all you need to know

Published

on

  • After the flagship iPhone 13 series, Apple’s next iPhone launch is expected to be the low-cost iPhone SE 3.
  • Rumours suggest an early 2022 launch for the iPhone SE 3, and upgrades like 5G.
  • Here’s a look at everything we know so far about the upcoming iPhone SE.

Rumours and leaks about the
next iPhone SE model suggest Apple is working on one, and we can expect it to launch early next year. Apple launched its first ‘affordable’ iPhone SE back in 2016, and it launched another one in 2020. There was no iPhone SE this year but the rumour mill is strong on a new model launching next year.

The new iPhone SE is expected to come with some major upgrades as compared to the previous models. There isn’t any confirmation yet and we’ll only know just a few days before the launch if
Apple is indeed planning a new iPhone SE model. But based on all the leaks and rumours, here’s a look at what we can expect from the iPhone SE 3.

Release date

Going by Apple’s history, the first iPhone SE was launched in March 2016 and the second-generation in April 2020. The third-generation iPhone SE is also rumoured to launch in the first quarter of 2022 which means that we can expect to see it by March latest.

Design, display

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new iPhone SE will feature a similar design as the current one which looks like the iPhone 8. Based on this speculation, Apple would continue to keep the Touch ID button which means thicker bezels and no edge-to-edge touch display for the iPhone SE 3.

Specs

The iPhone SE 3 is expected to feature a 4.7-inch display much like the second-gen model. It is said to be powered by the A15 chip which is the same as the iPhone 13. With performance improvements, we can also expect battery improvements with this chip. The new iPhone SE is also rumoured to come with 5G support which would be one of the biggest upgrades for this phone. As for the cameras, rumours suggest it could be the same 12-megapixel rear camera and a 7-megapixel front camera.

Price

Apple launched the second-gen iPhone SE at a starting price of $399 for the 64GB storage variant. There’s no word on the price yet but we’re expecting the same or similar price point for the iPhone SE 3 as well.
