Amid Rising US Fuel Prices, Joe Biden’s Message For “Bragging” Oil CEOs

Amid Rising US Fuel Prices, Joe Biden's Message For 'Bragging' Oil CEOs

US Fuel Prices: Rise in fuel prices in US has impacted President Joe Biden’s popularity numbers.

President Joe Biden is “frustrated” by big oil CEOs “bragging” about profits when fuel prices are soaring for ordinary Americans, the White House said Tuesday.

A painful hike in the cost of gasoline is spearheading an overall inflation problem and hitting Biden’s popularity ratings.

The White House says that oil companies may be illegally profiteering and has asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate.

In strong comments to reporters, Press Secretary Jen Psaki questioned why gasoline prices were so high in filling stations when crude oil is trading sharply lower.

“I will say, yes, we’re frustrated. We’re frustrated because you’ve seen a decrease in oil prices. You’ve not seen a decrease in gas” prices, she said. “It doesn’t take an economist — it doesn’t take an oil market expert to recognize that. That doesn’t sound, look or smell right.”

“We see oil company CEOs bragging about the profits they make when gas company prices go up,” Psaki said. “This is a real impact on the American people. It is incredibly frustrating. That’s why the president is so focused on it.”

Last week, Biden took the unusual measure of tapping US strategic oil reserves to pump additional supplies into the market. This was done in coordination with other major consumer countries such as China and India.

Biden’s attempt to calm the fuel markets has had little effect so far. However, news of the potentially dangerous new Omicron Covid-19 variant has sent crude oil prices sharply down.

Donald Trump accuses Duchess of Sussex of being ‘disrespectful’ to the Queen

Donald Trump has accused the Duchess of Sussex of being “disrespectful” to the Queen and the royal family.

Mr Trump spoke about a number of subjects during the interview which took place in Florida on Monday and will be broadcast on GB News.

Speaking about Meghan Mr Trump said: “I’m not a fan of hers. I wasn’t from day one. I think Harry has been used horribly and I think someday he will regret it.”

According to GB News, he added: “I think Harry’s been used and been used terribly.

“I think it’s ruined his relationship with his family, and it hurts the Queen.”

In response to comments from Mr Farage about Meghan using Duchess of Sussex headed writing paper to lobby members of Congress, Mr Trump said: “She is trying do things that I think are very inappropriate.”

GB News said he told Mr Farage: “I think she’s very disrespectful to the royal family and most importantly to the Queen.”

During the interview, Mr Trump described the Queen as “a great woman, such a great person, a historic person”.

It is not the first time Mr Trump has spoken about the royal family.

During his state visit to the UK in summer 2019, Mr Trump praised the royals saying: “The Queen and the entire royal family have been fantastic.

“The relationship with the United Kingdom is very strong.”

He has been critical of Meghan and Harry on a number of occasions.

Mr Trump said of the duchess in The Sun in 2019: “I didn’t know that she was nasty.”

And he tweeted following their departure from the royal family in 2020: “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom.

“It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada.

“Now they have left Canada for the US however, the US will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

When the couple urged people to vote in the 2020 election, Mr Trump told reporters: “I’m not a fan of hers and I would say this, and she probably has heard that.

“But I wish a lot of luck to Harry, cause he’s going to need it.”

GB News said the interview features Mr Trump talking about Boris Johnson, the presidential election, events at the US Capitol on January 6, Black Lives Matter, the migrant crisis in the US and the UK, Antifa, and the question of whether he will run for office again.

Farage, The Trump Interview airs at 7pm on Wednesday on GB News, which is available on Freeview 235, Sky 515 and Virgin Media 626.

Contacts of two South African nationals test -ve for Covid: Karnataka minister | Latest News India

The primary and secondary contacts of the two South African nationals who tested positive for the Covid-19 have tested negative, Karnataka health minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday.

Sudhakar on Monday had said the sample of one of the South African nationals, who tested positive for Covid-19, is ‘different from the Delta variant’. Refusing to further divulge details, the minister said that he is in touch with the Union health ministry and the Indian Council for Medical Research officials.

Two travellers from South Africa tested positive for Covid-19 in Bengaluru and their samples have been sent for genome sequencing to determine the variant. Officials said they tested positive for Covid during the RT-PCR tests conducted at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The first passenger arrived in Bengaluru on November 11 and the second arrived on November 20. Both were in quarantine after the positive result.

“We have sent the samples for further genome sequencing and results are expected in two to three days. But both patients don’t have any symptoms. In fact, they didn’t even require hospitalisation but we have kept them in a hospital as a precautionary measure,” he said.

A new variant of the coronavirus, classified as Omicron, has spread in several parts of South Africa, forcing many countries to shut their borders. Karnataka has instituted a mandatory test-on-arrival, and a seven-day quarantine thereafter if people are negative.

“We are taking every possible step to contain the spread of the new mutant strain. However, it is said to be spreading rapidly and I’m afraid we cannot stop it as India sees an influx of millions of people every day, being a large country. What we can do, however, is contain it,” the minister added.

Sudhakar also said that he has sought a detailed report on the Omicron variant. “We will get clear information on December 1 about how the Omicron behaves after the genomic sequencing. Accordingly, we will initiate all measures,” he explained.

Speaking about Omicron, Sudhakar, a medical professional, said he has spoken to doctors working in South Africa, who told him that the new variant is not as dangerous as the Delta variant.
