Liam Livingstone returns home from IPL citing bubble fatigue
April 20 2021 by Cricbuzz Staff
Rajasthan Royals batting allrounderhas left the IPL bubble and flown home on Monday (April 19), the franchise confirmed. Livingstone has cited bubble fatigue as the reason for his departure.
“We understand and respect his decision, and will continue supporting him in any way we can,” the franchise said.
Livingstone has been in multiple bio- bubbles over the last six months. He was a part of the England team that toured South Africa late last year before entering the Big Bash League bubble for his two-month long stint with Perth Scorchers. After finishing runners-up in the tournament, the 27-year-old travelled to India as part of England’s white-ball squad.
Making his debut in the ODI series in Ahmedabad, Livingstone joined the Royals bubble after the final game of the series. Bio-bubble fatigue has hogged headlines in recent months amidst a packed cricket schedule with boards looking to make up for lost ground as a result of the pandemic. Even before IPL 2021 began, Josh Hazlewood (CSK), Joshua Philippe (RCB) and Mitchell Marsh (SRH) pulled out citing bubble fatigue. Indian skipper Virat Kohli too urged forin these challenging times.
The England Cricket Board themselves have managed the workload of their players giving the all-format players breaks during the winter tours to Sri Lanka and India.
Livingstone’s departure is a another blow for the Royals who are already without first-choice players Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. The Royals have so far won only a solitary game out of the three they have played so far. They are scheduled to take on table-toppers Royal Challengers Bangalore next on April 22.
