Of all the wild performances at Lollapalooza on Saturday, perhaps none got fans talking more than that of Limp Bizkit’s.

The band’s frontman Fred Durst, 50, took the stage with the iconic nineties nu-metal group rocking a full head of silver hair — which many purported was a wig or intentionally bad toupee — and a handlebar mustache.

The new look sparked a wave of wildly specific comparisons on Twitter, which mentioned everything from a star on the show Undercover Boss to a former ‘high school basketball coach who now drinks coffee alone at 6:30 every morning at McDonald’s.’

Durst had first debuted his new look on Instagram last week which drew many head scratches from fans.

He had purged his Instagram of all images except three with the shaggy silver hairdo and handlebar mustache which left some to think it was all an act having been largely out of the spotlight.

Continuing to ride that wave, Durst — whose twitter bio reads ‘you’re confused? classic’ — did just that, as he took the stage at Grant Park with his bizarre new look that included red aviators.

But despite having aged, his performance was full of energy as he danced around the stage in a yellow button down and khaki pants with vans, before engaging with the crowd.

‘Fred Durst looks like he’s on Undercover Boss,’ one tweet read while some asked if he had entered the ‘witness protection program’

Another user wrote: ‘Fred Durst looks like a detective that let a case get the best of him.’

A social media user with a very wild imagination remarked: ‘Fred Durst looks like he coached high school basketball for 23 years with a .386 winning percentage and now drinks coffee alone at 6:30 every morning at McDonalds.’

And others commented on his age. ‘2021 fred durst looks like a sophisticated monster truck,’ while another said he belonged in ‘the louvre.’

One person joked: ‘When Fred Durst says ‘I think I might just break something tonight’ He’s talking about his hip.’

Others couldn’t help but draw comparisons to the Beastie Boys 2009 music video Sabotage.

Fred’s not so subtle disguise seemed to render images of the wigs and aviators the band sported in the hilarious video.

At one point he got off stage and jumped by the front row while throwing T-shirts to a very packed crowd.

Though very few masks seemed present during the set — and festival as a whole — in between performing classics like Nookie and Rollin, Durst spoke about the vaccine.

‘It’s amazing that this can happen,’ Durst said of the festival occuring during the pandemic. ‘Are you so happy to be out of the f**king house?,’ he said to cheers.

‘How many people are vaccinated?’,’ he continued which sparked an audience roar. Impressed he said ‘That’s very cool, very considerate, very thoughtful of you.’

Performing alongside him was his band — Sam Rivers, DJ Lethal and guitarist Wes Borland who wore a white face mask.

Durst also was seen dancing next to the festival’s ASL interpreter at one point as the music world continues to ensure that the hearing impaired can also enjoy experiences.

It was the band’s first performance in years as all had largely stepped away from music, with Durst having a side career as an Indie film director since 2006.
