4.2 quake 9 May 12:19 pm (GMT +8)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred around noon on Sunday 9 May 2021 at 12:19 pm local time near Dompu, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, as reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 102 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Dompu (pop. 49,000) located 12 km from the epicenter, and Bima (pop. 67,000) 41 km away.
