Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Indonesia near Ambon City, Maluku, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Friday 7 May 2021 at 11:00 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Amahai (pop. 47,700) located 91 km from the epicenter, and Ambon City (pop. 355,600) 99 km away.
