The COVID-19 cases in the coastal State increased by almost 24% in the last 24 hours as 212 fresh infections were detected from 16 districts, pushing the cumulative tally to 10,47,386, the health authorities said on Tuesday.

Two fresh fatalities took the death toll to 8,346 while the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) at 0.29% continued to remain below 1% for almost a month.

The northern district of Keonjhar today became free from COVID infection with all the infected persons recovering from the disease. Meanwhile six districts- Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Nuapada (2 each), Deogarh (5), Malkangiri and Dhenkanal (7 each) – are on the threshold of becoming Covid-free with single digit active cases. On the other hand, Khordha district continues to record a maximum number of infections and stays in the yellow zone with 1,030 active cases.

Odisha registered more COVID-19 recoveries than new cases as 245 people recuperated from the disease as against 212 fresh cases. This is for the 20th successive day that the State’s recoveries have surpassed the daily tally.

Of the new infectees, 70 were children. The rate of infection of children and adolescents in the age group of 0 to 18 years now is 33.01% against the previous day’s 19.88 per cent.

The Khordha district reported the highest number of daily cases at 90. The district accounted for almost 43 per cent of the new infections while 14 out of 30 districts did not report any new cases in the last 24 hours.

The state currently has 2,191 active COVID-19 cases while 10,36,746 patients including 245 on Monday recovering from the disease.

As 212 samples gave positive results out of 48,143 samples tested on Monday, the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) stood at 0.44 percent as against previous day’s 0.29%.

The state’s positivity rate also stands at 4.5 percent while more than 2.32 crore samples have been clinically tested so far since the detection of COVID-19 in March 2020 in the State.

The State’s recovery rate currently stands at 98.98% while active cases account for 0.20% of total positive cases registered in the State.

The State’s share is 3.05% in the country’s confirmed virus caseload while the active cases are 1.44% of India’s total active cases. The number of cured patients accounts for 3.08% of the country’s total recovery. Odisha has so far reported 1.83% of the country’s Coronavirus deaths.

The state’s health authorities have so far administered 4,16,17,486 COVID-19 vaccine doses while 1,43,59,267 people out of 3.09 crore eligible adult population are fully vaccinated. A total of 46.27% of the eligible population has so far received both doses of vaccine.

Pimpri-Chinchwad industries want doorstep Covid-19 vaccination for factory workers

Published

Small and medium scale industries in Pimpri-Chinchwad have demanded Covid-19 vaccination drives within their premises to ensure all of their workers are fully vaccinated. Abhay Bhor, president of the Forum of Small Scale Industries, said around 50 per cent of the employees are yet to get their second dose.

The emergence of the Omicron variant of coronavirus has brought the focus back on vaccination. Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have seen good vaccination coverage but the percentage of people who are fully vaccinated is not that high. Bhor said most industrial workers are in the age group of 18-45 years and had got their first dose late. “Most of the 12-14 lakh workers in the various small and medium scale industries have got their first dose and around 50 per cent of them are yet to get their second dose,” he said.

Over the last week, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has started a special door-to-door vaccination drive. “Our Forum wants such a drive to be done at the industrial area. We have been asking for a special vaccination centre only for the industrial workers since the start of the drive but that did not happen,” he said.

Bhor pointed out the advantage of an exclusive drive for the industrial worker would vaccinate the most mobile population of the area. Given the slack in infection rates and easy availability of vaccines, the centres have not seen much of a rush. But the vaccination slots are available only during the working hours of the industrial units. “Instead, if the vaccination comes near to them it would be of immense help to the workers,” he said.

iPhone SE 3 release date, specs and price — all you need to know

Published

on

  • After the flagship iPhone 13 series, Apple’s next iPhone launch is expected to be the low-cost iPhone SE 3.
  • Rumours suggest an early 2022 launch for the iPhone SE 3, and upgrades like 5G.
  • Here’s a look at everything we know so far about the upcoming iPhone SE.

Rumours and leaks about the
next iPhone SE model suggest Apple is working on one, and we can expect it to launch early next year. Apple launched its first ‘affordable’ iPhone SE back in 2016, and it launched another one in 2020. There was no iPhone SE this year but the rumour mill is strong on a new model launching next year.

The new iPhone SE is expected to come with some major upgrades as compared to the previous models. There isn’t any confirmation yet and we’ll only know just a few days before the launch if
Apple is indeed planning a new iPhone SE model. But based on all the leaks and rumours, here’s a look at what we can expect from the iPhone SE 3.

Release date

Going by Apple’s history, the first iPhone SE was launched in March 2016 and the second-generation in April 2020. The third-generation iPhone SE is also rumoured to launch in the first quarter of 2022 which means that we can expect to see it by March latest.

Design, display

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new iPhone SE will feature a similar design as the current one which looks like the iPhone 8. Based on this speculation, Apple would continue to keep the Touch ID button which means thicker bezels and no edge-to-edge touch display for the iPhone SE 3.

Specs

The iPhone SE 3 is expected to feature a 4.7-inch display much like the second-gen model. It is said to be powered by the A15 chip which is the same as the iPhone 13. With performance improvements, we can also expect battery improvements with this chip. The new iPhone SE is also rumoured to come with 5G support which would be one of the biggest upgrades for this phone. As for the cameras, rumours suggest it could be the same 12-megapixel rear camera and a 7-megapixel front camera.

Price

Apple launched the second-gen iPhone SE at a starting price of $399 for the 64GB storage variant. There’s no word on the price yet but we’re expecting the same or similar price point for the iPhone SE 3 as well.
