BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Northern Light Health will expand its coronavirus vaccination sign up availability to those 50 and older Monday afternoon.
Starting at 2pm, Northern Light will make their open appointments available.
This comes after state officials made the decision at the end of last week to move up the eligibility timeline.
Those 50 and older can start getting the shots Tuesday.
Adults ages 16 to 49 become eligible on April 19th.
With a major increase in those able to sign up, it could take some time to get your appointment.
“We expect it will have the same issues that we’ve had every time that we’ve changed the eligibility criteria,” explained Dr. James Jarvis. “We’ll see some strong interest early on, and so our website is designed to handle that, but I ask people to be patient if they are going to use the website or if they are going to call for an appointment. It will take some time probably this afternoon because we do know that is a large increase in the amount of population that is eligible.”
He says over the weekend, Northern Light’s Cross Center clinic did around two thousand vaccinations.
Around 300 appointments went unfilled.
