OTT platforms like PrimeVideo, Netflix can participate in Oscars with their original content.
As per the report published on pinkvilla.com coming 2021’s academic awards will allow streaming services in their nomination list. Another report from variety.com says this change is only regulated for the films released this year. Thereafter the restriction will be reverted as usual.
On a board meeting Tuesday, decisions were made that not all the movies, series or hits of a streaming service will be allowed for nominations. Movies which were planned for a theatrical release and those which runs in commercial theatres of LA, U.S.A for 7-days qualify to get into the list.
The date for 93rd oscar gathering is fixed for February 28 2021. These changes were made by the board of governors upon the impact of coronavirus pandemic. However, there will be more crucial decisions to be taken with an outbreak of coronavirus.
