NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that “women are more powerful than men” but don’t understand how their power works or where it comes from.
“I will tell you a secret that men will never tell you. Women are much more powerful than men. They are fooling you. There is a problem. Women do not understand how their power works and where their power comes from. And that is the whole point of empowerment ” Gandhi said while interacting with students of Kochi-based St Teresa’s College for women.
He also disagreed with a student who said that men and women are equal in society.

The former Congress chief said that society wants to convince women that they are less powerful but they must not buy it.
“Once you realise that you are more powerful, then understand your power,” he said, but advised then not to misuse their power.
“No women should be under the illusion that they are not powerful, you are more powerful then men,” he stressed.

“Society is going to push you. I will be right blunt. Society treats you very badly in India. It insults you every single day. It doesn’t let you do what you want.
“It attacks you. So you have to gain strength from inside. For that you have to understand the way you have been pushed, understand the forces that are hurting you and then position yourself properly”, he said.

The 50-year-old Congress MP from Wayanad, who is in poll-bound Kerala for campaigning, also demonstrated some moves from the Japanese martial art Aikido, in which he has trained.
He helped the students learn a basic lesson on how to gather inner strength while being pushed aside.
According to teachers of the college, when a student requested the Wayanad MP to display some skills useful for the women for self-defence, he taught them a ‘principle’ from a martial art which they can use to protect themselves.
