The demise of Wajid Khan was one of the tragedies of 2020. The music composer passed away due to kidney failure. After his death, his wife Kamalrukh Khan came out in the open on how religious fanaticism drove a wedge in her marital life. She said that she had resisted all the pressure to convert to Islam, which caused the separation. After his death, she moved to Bombay High Court saying how Sajid Khan and her in-laws were adamant on making sure that she and their children, Arshi and Hrehaan did not get anything from his inheritance. Now, the Bombay High Court under Justice Gautam Patel has told Sajid Khan and his mother to disclose all the assets of late Wajid Khan. The judge said, “The Respondents will file an Affidavit in Reply on or before 21st April 2021. The Reply is to disclose the entire estate of the deceased the late Mr. Wajid S Khan along with the necessary tax returns and their accompanied computation of income or sale. Also required will be the returns of the Limited Liability Company in which the deceased had an interest. All other similar commercial entities in which the deceased had any interest or share (apart from regular investments) are also to be disclosed with their complete financials.”
Kamalrukh Khan said that Wajid Khan and his family lived away from the family home as religion was an issue. They had married under a Special Marriage Act of 2003 and she was never accepted as part of the family. Kamalrukh said that they filed for divorce in 2014 and he signed the consent terms in 2017. She has said that Wajid Khan had agreed to provide maintenance for her children and gift them certain immovable assets. But the couple never got divorced officially.
On the other hand, Sajid Khan’s mother said that as per a ‘Hibanama’ made by Wajid Khan, he did not desire to leave anything for his wife or kids. She said they acted on it. Now, they have been told to disclose every asset and submit tax returns.
