Telangana schools, colleges closed amid Covid-19 surge

HYDERABAD: In the wake of a surge in Covid-19 cases in the state, especially in schools, the Telangana government on Tuesday has decided to temporarily close all educational institutions across the state from tomorrow i.e March 24. Online classes, however, will continue as usual for students.

In the assembly, Sabitha Indra Reddy, education minister, Telangana said that the decision has been made keeping the safety of students in mind.

“We have received several requests from parents asking to shut down physical classes. Keeping the safety of students and parents in mind, the state has decided to temporarily close all educational institutions,” said the education minister, Telangana adding that even in other states, educational institutions have been closed due to Covid-19.

These closure orders apply to all hostels, gurukul schools, government and private educational institutions in the state except medical colleges.

Teachers, however, will have to continue attending duties as schools or other educational institution institutions will remain closed only for students.

In the past week, hundreds of students from various schools, especially residential institutions, tested positive for Covdid-19. Many schools have turned into Covid-19 clusters.
