It’s no surprise that children often follow in their parents footsteps when it comes to their career choices.
And the same goes for stars of music, stage and screen.
And while there are plenty of off-screen family connections you know about, there are some that are less obvious that will surprise you.
Here’s a look at some of the famous faces who may outshine their parents.
Mabel is a Spanish-born British-Swedish singer and songwriter who burst onto the scene four years ago with single, Finders Keepers.
The 25-year-old is also known for her UK top-10 singles Don’t Call Me Up and Mad Love – and she also won the BRIT Award for British Female Solo Artist last year.
Mabel was born into a very talented family so it’s no surprise music has become her full-time career.
Not only is her mum 80s music icon Neneh Cherry, and father Massive Attack producer Cameron McVey, but her mum’s half-brother is 90s musician Eagle-Eye Cherry.
Mum Neneh won two Brit Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award and was also nominated for a Grammy Award during her pop carer
Mabel paid tribute to her parents back in December as they celebrated three decades of marriage.
“30 years of true love. Mum and dad you will forever be the bar to which my high expectations are set. Love you,” Mabel wrote alongside a throwback picture of Neneh and Cameron.
Viewers will recognise Bessie Carter as the co-star of Phoebe Dynevor in Netflix hit Bridgerton.
Bessie, 27, portrayed Prudence Featherington in the raunchy period drama, one of the three Featherington sisters.
She previously starred as Evie Wilcox in the BBC television series Howards End and Violet Woodhouse on the ITV series Beecham House.
But Bessie was probably always destined for an acting career as the daughter of actors Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter.
Dad Jim will be best recognised for his Emmy-nominated role of Mr Carson in Downton Abbey while mum Imelda has had a long and successful stage and film career including in the juggernaut that is the Harry Potter series.
During a recent appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Jim said of his daughter’s Netflix role: “We’re delighted, it’s been a huge success.
“Bessie has had a wonderful time doing it. I’m thrilled on her behalf. They’re starting out a second series soon.”
Bryce Dallas Howard
Hollywood actress Bryce Dallas Howard is the daughter of writer Cheryl Howard and actor and Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, formerly Richie Cunningham in classic series Happy Days.
As well as that, through her father, she is a granddaughter of actors Rance Howard and Jean Speegle Howard as well as a niece of actor Clint Howard.
The showbiz connections don’t end there as her godfather is Happy Days actor Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler, her dad’s co-star in the 70s and 80s sitcom.
As for Bryce, whose name is appears to be a nod to her being conceived in Dallas, Texas, she has gone on to earn her acting stripes in her own right.
The 40-year-old’s film credits include Jurassic World and its sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Spider-Man 3 and As You Like It.
However, her most recent role has been as director for Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
Many viewers will recognise Claudia for hosting Strictly Come Dancing alongside Tess Daly.
But the 49-year-old has many strings to her bow as a television presenter, film critic, radio personality, and journalist.
Again, Claudia’s career choices may have been influenced by her parents, Eve Pollard and dad Barry Winkleman.
Eve is former editor of the Sunday Express while father Barry was a publisher.
Sadly, Claudia’s parents split when she was three-years-old but both went on to remarry, with Eve marrying Nicholas Lloyd and becoming Lady Lloyd, while Barry married children’s author Cindy Black.
The connections don’t not stop there as Claudia’s half-sister is Peep Show actress Sophie Winkleman, who is married to Lord Frederick Windsor, making her Lady Frederick Windsor.
Both of Matty Healy’s parents are no stranger to the small screen.
The 1975 front-man is the son of Loose Women star Denise Welch and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Benidorm actor Tim Healy.
Matty, who grew up in Newcastle and Cheshire, met Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann and George Daniel at Wilmslow High School before deciding to form a band.
That band, The 1975 have gone on to have four number one albums and have toured the world.
Netflix’ Bridgerton and ITV’s Coronation Street somewhat collided at the end of last year – completely blowing fans minds.
Phoebe Dynevor’s role in the Netflix hit as Daphne Bridgerton has already catapulted her to worldwide fame in just a few short months while her mum Sally Dynevor is one of Corrie’s most recognisable stars having joined as Sally Webster back in 1986.
Phoebe, 25, is the eldest of Sally’s three children, including son Sam and youngest daughter Hattie, with scriptwriter Tim Dynevor.
Tim is best known for his time working on ITV soap Emmerdale and more recently he co-wrote The Drowning on Channel 5.
Netflix fans have been hooked by new psychological thriller Behind Her Eyes and its lead star is the daughter of U2 singer Bono.
Eve Hewson, who is also known for her roles in film Robin Hood and drama The Luminaries, plays Adele in the streaming service’s new show.
Fans may also be interested to know that the Irish actor’s full name is Memphis Eve Sunny Day Hewson.
And of course Bono, 60, is most famed for being the lead singer for U2, the popular Irish rock band which formed in 1976.
She was the star of essential lockdown viewing Emily in Paris on Netflix and has starred in Sky Cinema’s biopic about US serial killer Ted Bundy and in Disney movie Tolkien.
But Lily Collins was born at the height of her father Phil Collins fame, to his second wife Jill Tavelman.
The drummer and singer is probably best known for being part of rock band Genesis as well as his successful solo career.
And Lily, now 32, reportedly had a bit of a showbiz upbringing with Phil’s pal Elton John taking on the role of one of her babysitters.
The actress has previously candidly opened up toabout the specific moment she knew her dad wasn’t like any other dad.
“I was being carried on my dad’s shoulders when this man started to walk towards us,” she told the publication.
“He had my dad’s face on his T-shirt and I didn’t quite get it. Then he saw my dad and asked for a photo — and it was a really weird moment.
“I was thinking, ‘Why does he want a picture of my dad, and why is my dad on his T-shirt?’. Slowly but surely, I started to understand.”
Sophie Ellis Bextor
This one is probably more widely known – that songstress Sophie is the daughter of children’s TV presenter Janet Ellis.
Janet is best remembered for her role on BBC’s Blue Peter as well as Jigsaw.
But Sophie went on a different career path to both her parents ,as her dad Robin Bextor is a film producer and director.
Sophie started her career in the early 1990s as the lead singer of the indie rock band Theaudience before earning solo success in early 2000s.
Her biggest singles include Take Me Home, Murder on the Dancefloor and Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) with Spiller.
