The Originals Featurette Takes Us Back to the Franchise’s Beginning


The F9: The Originals trailer reminds viewers of the beginnings of the Fast & Furious franchise and teases the stunts to come in the new installment.

Fast & Furious 9 takes viewers on a high-octane ride down memory mane with a trailer that shows the beginnings of the franchise and sets up what will transpire in the latest installment.

The F9: The Originals trailer opens with star Vin Diesel, who invokes his character Dom Toretto’s mantra: “I live my life a quarter-mile at a time.”

The trailer then shows some behind-the-scenes footage and clips from franchise launcher The Fast and the Furious from 2001 along quick interview clips with Diesel and costars Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster. Also seen are series stars Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, the late Paul Walker, Gal Gadot, Sung Kang, Jason Statham and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Director Justin Lin, who helmed The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6 and returns to the series with F9, is also shown at work on the set.

There are teases of the kinds of eye-popping set pieces and vehicle stunts the Fast & Furious franchise is known for, such as the scene in Furious 7 in which a $3 million W Motors Lykan HyperSport is crashed through the upper floors of three of the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi. Rodriguez says F9 goes further: “The things that happen in this film are just, like, ‘Okay, wait a minute. This is a game-changer, for sure.'”

Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The film arrives in theaters June 25.
